HEJ!

Dåliga nyheter:

Auktionstipset har tyvärr kastat in handduken.

Kram,

Lisa & Leo

Nord-Sud Revue mensuelle Paris 1930-31 2 vol.

VERY RARE SWEDISH-FRENCH CULTURAL MAGAZINE FROM 1930-31 - EDITOR'S OWN COPY. (2). Nord-Sud (revue bi-mensuelle franco-scandinave). Issue 1-50. All published. Edited by John Bernström and Ivar Bjarne. (Paris) 1930-31. All issues bound in two volumes in blue cloth, front cover with John Bernström's name in gilt. Vol. I: 1-24 (with two double issues at the end). Vol. II: 1-22 (all double issues, last 4 in one issue). Parallell text in Swedish and French, also some parts in Danish and Norwegian. All but one issue [no 1] with decorated cover, the 3 first ones with thick cover, some minor soiling and creasing, a few minor tears, some minor tear to 2 covers. Complete. Interesting and entertaining cultural magazine, dealing with literature, art, exhibitions, theatre, dance etc., but also gastronomy, mainly on France and Sweden, but also some articles on Denmark and Norway. Richly illustrated and with many advertisments. Together with a letter in facsimile from the Swedish Royal Library (Kungl. Biblioteket) written to John Bernström from Nils Afzelius (2nd librarian). Afzelius expresses his thanks for sending him some issues of the magazine. + Also with 2 advertisement cards for the magazine and 2 sheets for subscription. Very rare complete. Only one copy registered in a library, at Linköpings stadsbibliotek, Stiftsbiblioteket (Sweden). This extremely rare magazine was partly financed by the Swedish entrepreneur and financier Ivar Kreuger, also known as the "Match King". His financial empire collapsed during the Great Depression and he allegedly committed suicide in Paris in March 1932. John Bernström (1903-89) was a kind of "Jack-of-all-trades" and had many talents. His grandfather wanted him to take over Alfa Laval, but instead he worked as an actor in London, Germany and Paris under the name "Jean Storm". He was directed by Murnau and later Jean Renoir. He started this cultural magazine as France imposed new laws making it hard for foreign actors to work in the country.
